Within the framework of its Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised a Training Course on 'SDG 8.9 (Sustainable Tourism) Indicators' for the benefit of 18 experts from the National Statistical Offices (NSOs) and Ministries of Tourism of 6 French speaking OIC countries on 18-20 December 2023 through an online video conferencing platform.

Mr. Eliezer ADJIBOYE, Head of the National Accounting and Economic Studies Department, and Mr. Noël AKPAGNONNIDE, Project Manager at the same department of the National Institute of Statistics and Demography (INStaD) of the Republic of Benin, conducted the course and covered the following topics:

• General information on SDG 8.9 and Tourism Satellite Accounts (TSA)
  • Overview of SDG 8.9
  • Tourism Satellite Accounts
• Implementation of experimental tourism satellite accounts in Benin
  • Institutional and organizational anchoring of TSAs in Benin
  • Main surveys carried out
  • National accounts in Benin's TSAs
• Lessons learned and prospects for TSA in Benin

The SESRIC StatCaB Programme was initiated in early 2007. It is the flagship capacity development programme of SESRIC. Within the framework of StatCaB Programme, the Centre collects information from the NSOs of OIC member countries through the biennial StatCaB Questionnaire, assesses their statistical training needs and capacities, matches these needs and capacities, and organizes statistical capacity development activities between the beneficiary and provider countries.
