On the sidelines of the Workshop on “Energy Statistics, Balances, and Accounts for Informed Energy and Climate Policies”, SESRIC, in collaboration with the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN-ESCWA), the Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics (AITRS), the International Energy Agency (IEA), and the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT), organized a panel discussion titled “The Role of National Statistical Offices in Supporting Data-Driven Energy Transitions” on 10 December 2024 at SESRIC Headquarters in Ankara, Türkiye.

The panel brought together representatives from National Statistical Offices (NSOs), relevant national institutions and international organizations to discuss best practices, challenges, and opportunities in supporting data-driven energy transitions. As countries move towards sustainable energy systems, the role of NSOs in providing reliable, timely, and comprehensive energy data becomes essential. The discussion examined how NSOs contribute to data-driven energy transitions and inform climate policy through integrated energy statistics and the development of comprehensive energy accounts.
