SESRIC participated in the OIC High-Level Expert Meeting on Advancing the Food Security Reserve System, Strategic Agricultural Commodities, and Finalizing the Strategic Plan for Ensuring Food Security in OIC Member States held from September 1–3, 2024, in Doha, Qatar. The event was jointly organised by the Ministry of Municipality of the State of Qatar, Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), and the OIC General Secretariat.
The first day comprised a Combined Meeting of the Steering Committees on the Establishment of the OIC Food Security Reserve System and Implementation of the OIC Programmes of Action on the Development of Strategic Agricultural Commodities, and included an Opening Ceremony with welcoming remarks by Dr. Masoud Al-Marri, Director of the Food Security Department of the Ministry of Municipality of the State of Qatar; a statement by Amb. Khusrav Noziri, Assistant Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS); and a statement by Dr. Ahmad Kawesa Sengendo, Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Affairs of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The second and third days of the meeting focused on the final review of the Strategic Plan for Ensuring Food Security in OIC Member States (SPEFS-OIC). The meeting was attended by Eng. Fahad Mohammed Al Qahtani, Assistant Undersecretary for Agriculture and Food Security Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality of the State of Qatar, who delivered his welcoming remarks.
During the meeting, Dr. Davron Ishnazarov, Researcher at SESRIC, delivered a speech on SESRIC’s perspective on the monitoring and evaluation of the SPEFS-OIC. He provided an overview of SESRIC activities related to food security in the region, particularly emphasising the role of the Centre’s ongoing contributions through statistics, research, and capacity-building programmes to address agriculture and food security in OIC countries. He highlighted the importance of having measurable objectives and SMART action programmes to ensure reliable monitoring and evaluation.
