H.E. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK was a panellist at the #ADF2026 panel on “Engaging Women in Sustaining Peace.”
Since UN Security Council Resolution 1325, nine subsequent resolutions have also reaffirmed that women are central to peace processes.
Evidence supports this: women’s meaningful participation makes peace agreements 20% more likely to last at least two years and 35% more likely to last 15 years.
At panel, H.E. SELÇUK highlighted four core elements (4Rs) that enable women to shape peace agendas more effectively: Rules, Resources, Relationships and Resonance.
In other words, although there is no one size fits all approach, the best practices occur when participation is institutionalised, funded, connected, and adapted in a way that is understandable and acceptable within each society’s context.
