The Centre organised a training course on 'Census Survey Design and Sampling Techniques' at the Central Statistical Organization in Sana'a, Yemen on 4-6 September 2013. The course was provided by Mr. Arif Cheema, an expert from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

SESRIC hosted the Twenty Second Session of the Committee for the Coordination of Statistical Activities (CCSA) at its Headquarters in Ankara-Turkey on 4-6 September 2013. Representatives of 21 international organisations participated in the Twenty Second Session of CCSA. The Centre was represented by Prof. Savas Alpay, Director General; Mr. Atilla Karaman, Acting Director of Statistics and Information Department; Mr. Nabeel Dabour, Director of Economic and Social Research Department; Mr. Fatih Serenli, Director of Training and Technical Cooperation Department; Ms. Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk, Senior Researcher; Mr. Syed Tahir Mahmud, Researcher, Mr. Abdulhamit Öztürk, Research Assistant, and Mr. Abdullah Al Mamoun, Intern.

The 11th International Scientific Symposium on “Environmental Protection Legislation: Towards Sustainable Development”, was held in the Holy City of Makah al-Mukarramah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the period 1-3 September 2013 in parallel to the 13th General Conference of Organizational of Islamic Capitals and Cities (OICC) and the International Exhibition on “Environmental Protection and Achievements of Islamic Capitals and Cities Municipalities” as the accompanying events of the conference.

Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) organised a training course on “Quality Improvement: Seed Quality and Preparation” at the Central Cotton Research Institute, Multan, Pakistan, under OIC Cotton Training Programme (OIC-CTP) on 28-30 August 2013. The Course was provided by Dr. Feride Oncan Sümer, Researcher at Cotton Research Station, Department of Fiber and Seed Technology, Nazilli, Turkey with the participation of researchers and trainers of the Central Cotton Research Institute of Pakistan. Within the context of the training programme, Pakistani researchers also received in-the-field practical training.

The Centre organised a training course on 'Transport and Communication Statistics' at the Institut National de la Statistique in Yaoundé, Cameroon on 26-28 August 2013. The course was provided by Mr. Bouazza Bouchkhar, an expert from the Direction de la Statistique, Morocco.

Co-organised by the International Statistical Institute (ISI) and Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department, the 59th World Statistics Congress (WSC) was held on 25-30 August 2013 in Hong Kong-China.

Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) was represented in the Training Program on COMCEC Project Funding Mechanism, which was held in Ankara, Republic of Turkey, during the period 19-20 August 2013.

Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) in collaboration with World Ageing Council (DUNYAK) and Women’s Branches of AK Party Headquarters organised a consultancy meeting on “Age Friendly Islamic Countries Strategies and Action Plan”, on 16 August 2013, in Ankara, Republic of Turkey. The meeting took place in the Headquarters of SESRIC.

The Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), in collaboration with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and the Aegean International Federation of Health (ESAFED) organised a training course in Antalya, Republic of Turkey, for 2 medical doctors and 4 medical assistants from the Ngaundere State Hospital, Cameroon, within the framework of IbnSina Health Capacity Building Program of OIC. The training course took place between the period 15 August-15 November 2013 and was provided in Antalya Research and Training Hospital, approved by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Turkey.

The Centre organized a training course on “Consumer Price Index (CPI)” at the Statistics Indonesia, on 13-15 August 2013. The course was provided by Mr. Cem Baş, an expert from the Turkish Statistical Institute and was attended by 50 staff members of the Statistics Indonesia.

The TQS Conference “A subset of Key Questions from the Global Adult Tobacco Survey” was organised under the auspices of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Geneva, Switzerland on 12-13 August 2013.

Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) organised a training programme on “Risk Management” at the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic on 12-13 August 2013, within the framework of OIC Central Banks Capacity Building Programme (OIC-CB-CaB). The Course was provided by Mr. Suat Aydın, Deputy Director, FX Risk Management Division of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey with participation of relevant members of National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), in collaboration with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and the Aegean International Federation of Health (ESAFED) is organizing a training course for 9 medical doctors from the USTTB – Bamako University Medical Faculty in Izmir, Republic of Turkey. The training course which is scheduled from 15 July until 27 September 2013 will be provided in several training and research hospitals approved by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Turkey.

Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) organised a training course on “Plant Protection: Diseases” at the Cotton Research Institute, Ayub Agricultural Research Institute, Faisalabad, Pakistan, on 9-11 July 2013. The Course was provided by Dr Kamel Abd-Elsalam, a Molecular Plant Pathologist from the Plant Pathology Research Institute, Agricultural Research Centre, Egypt and were attended by 30 agricultural protectionists and scientists dealing with cotton production at the Ayub Agricultural Research Institute. Within the context of the programme, Pakistani scientists also received in-the-field practical training.

Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) organised a training course on “Competition Law and Policy” within the framework of the OIC Capacity Building Programme for Competition Authorities (OIC-CA-CaB) on 3-5 July 2013 in Khartoum, Sudan. The course was provided by Mr. Rostom Omar, Investigation and Legal Research Department Head in Egyptian Competition Authority and attended by several experts from the Ministry of Trade, Republic of Sudan.

Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), in cooperation with the Tobacco Market Regulatory Authority of the Republic of Turkey (TAPDK) organised a study visit for the delegation from the National Tobacco Control Commission of the State of Palestine, in order to share the best? practices and exchange expertise on tobacco control issues on 02-04 July 2013 in Ankara, Republic of Turkey.

Her Excellency Mariam Qasim Ahmed, Minister of Human Development and Public Services of the Democratic Republic of Somalia, paid a courtesy visit to SESRIC Headquarters, Ankara, Turkey, on 1 July 2013. The Minister was accompanied by Osman Omar Abdi, Regional Medical Officer of Banadir Region, and Dr. Lokman Çam, Pediatrician of the Aegean International Health Federation (ESAFED), and was received by Mr. Hüseyin Hakan Eryetli, Director of Publication and IT Department and Mr. Mehmet Fatih Serenli, Director of Training and Technical Cooperation Department at SESRIC.

The 36th Session of the Islamic Commission for Economic, Cultural and Social Affairs (ICECS)” has been held at the OIC Headquarters in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on 30 June – 2 July 2013. The Session has been attended by the representatives of the OIC member countries and those of the OIC and its subsidiary, specialized and affiliated institutions.

Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) organised, in collaboration with the Competition Authority of the Republic of Turkey, a training course on “Competition Law and Policy” within the framework of the OIC Capacity Building Programme for Competition Authorities (OIC-CA-CaB) on 28-30 June 2013 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The course was attended by the senior officials of Government of Bangladesh and representatives from private sector and the Institute for Policy, Advocacy and Governance (IPAG).

Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) organised a training course on “Livestock Management: Breeding Cattle Raising and Improvement” in Brunei on 26-27 June 2013, within the framework of OIC Agriculture Capacity Building Programme (OIC-AgriCaB). The Course was provided by Dr. Sema Yaman, Head of Feeds and Animal Nutrition Division, Livestock Central Research Institute, Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock of Turkey with participation of relevant scientists and agronomists of Department of Agriculture & Agrifood Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources of Brunei.
