In its capacity as the Secretariat of the Statistical Commission of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC-StatCom), the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) organised the OIC-StatCom Technical Committee of Experts (TCE) Meeting on Gender Related Issues on 21 – 22 January 2013 at the SESRIC Headquarters in Ankara, Turkey.

The Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock of the Republic of Turkey organised, in collaboration with COMCEC Coordination Office, a workshop on “Enhancing the Capacity of the Member States in Wheat Production” on 15-16 January 2013, in İzmir, Turkey.

Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) organised training on “Agronomy: Soil Tillage” at the Cotton Development Organisation (CDO) in Kampala, Uganda, on 15-17 January 2013. The course was provided by Prof Sheikh El Din Abdel Gadir El-Awad, an expert from Agricultural Research Corporation (ARC) in Sudan, and was attended by 18 scientists dealing with cotton production of the CDO of Uganda.

Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) organised training on “Agronomy: Crop Rotation and Management” within the framework of OIC Cotton Training Programme (OIC-CTP) at the Mozambique Institute for Cotton in Maputo, Mozambique, on 14-18 January 2013. The course was provided by Dr Said Abd El-Tawab Farag Hamoda, an expert from Agricultural Research Centre in Egypt, and was attended by agronomists, researchers and technicians from public and private sector.

A number of talks have been held between SESRIC and the World Bank on January 9-10, 2013, at the Bank’s headquarters in Washington DC, USA, to explore the potential modalities for greater cooperation between the two institutions on various fronts. The SESRIC delegation was composed of Dr. Savas Alpay, Director-General, and Mr. Nadi Serhan Aydin, Researcher at the Department of Economic and Social Research.

The Centre organised training course on 'External Trade Statistics' at the Central Statistical Office (CSO), Kuwait on 6-8 January 2013. The course was provided by Mr. Bülent Tungul, an expert from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), and was attended by 15 staff members of the Central Statistical Office (CSO), Kuwait.

Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) organized, in collaboration with Aegean International Federation of Health (ESAFED) and Turkish Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA), a training programme on “Emergency Medicine” on 01 January 2013-24 February 2013 in Mogadishu, Republic of Somalia.
